Feedback

Collect user and agent feedback with the gateway-provided send_feedback tool and review reports alongside their sessions.

Feedback lets users and agents report unexpected tool failures, unhelpful responses, and missing capabilities directly from their MCP client. Manufact adds a send_feedback tool to your server's tool list and collects its reports in the Feedback tab.

No SDK installation, server code changes, or redeploy is required. Feedback works through your server's Manufact gateway URL, including for servers hosted elsewhere.

Enable feedback

Open your server in the Manufact dashboard and select Feedback.
Click Enable feedback. You can also enable Feedback tool under Settings → Analytics capture.
Connect your MCP client using the server's Manufact gateway URL.
Refresh the client's tool list or reconnect so it discovers send_feedback.

Clients connected directly to your upstream server bypass the gateway and do not receive the injected tool.

Published apps

If your client or app store caches tool definitions, enabling feedback may require updating the integration or submitting a new store version before agents can discover the tool.

The send_feedback tool

When feedback capture is enabled, the gateway adds send_feedback to the MCP tools/list response. Calls to this tool are handled by Manufact instead of being forwarded to your server.

The tool accepts two required arguments:

`source`	`"user" \| "model"`	Use `user` when the user asked to send feedback, or `model` when the agent reports an issue on its own.

A successful call returns a text acknowledgment, Feedback received. Thank you., and structured content containing { "received": true }.

Enabling the tool makes it available to agents; it does not guarantee they will call it. To try it, ask your connected agent:

Send feedback to this server: the search results should include document titles.

Existing tools with the same name

If your server already exposes a tool named send_feedback, Manufact does not add a duplicate. Avoid this name for your own tools when using gateway feedback capture: while capture is enabled, the gateway intercepts calls with that name.

Review reports

Open the server's Feedback tab to read reports. Each report shows its content, time, source, and client information when available. Filter by source or client to focus on specific reports.

Use View session, when available, to inspect the session associated with the report and understand what happened around it.

The dashboard labels source: "model" as Agent and source: "user" as User. This value is supplied by the caller. It is not independently verified and should not be treated as proof that a human submitted the report.

Disable feedback

Turn off feedback capture in the Feedback tab or under Settings → Analytics capture. The gateway stops adding the tool and intercepting its calls. Refresh or reconnect clients that still show a cached tool list.

Troubleshooting

The tool does not appear

Confirm feedback capture is enabled for this server.
Check that the client uses the Manufact gateway URL rather than the upstream URL.
Refresh the client's tool list or reconnect. Published integrations may need an update to their approved tool definitions.
Check whether your server already exposes a tool named send_feedback.

No reports appear

Enabling capture does not create reports automatically. Ask a connected agent to call send_feedback, confirm the call succeeded, and check the Feedback tab's source and client filters.

Feedback content

Feedback is stored as report content. The tool asks callers to remove personal information, but this is an instruction rather than a guarantee of automatic redaction. Do not include credentials, secrets, or unnecessary personal data.
